Smith said the team expects Gonzalez to play in the final two preseason games. Smith said the team knew about Gonzalez’s situation before he re-signed.

Texans | Concerned about ILB status

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he is concerned about the team’s lack of depth at inside linebacker. LBs Tim Dobbins and Cameron Collins have been working with the first-team defense because LBs Darryl Sharpton (groin) and Brian Cushing (knee) have not been able to participate in team drills. Kubiak said the team will keep an eye out on who is available at the position during the preseason.

Broncos | Champ Bailey to get time off during camp

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox said the team will give CB Champ Bailey some time off during training camp because of his age and their belief he will be ready for the start of the season. ‘At this point in his career we’re going to do what’s best, just like we would for all our players. We know Champ is ready to go and will be ready to go. And when he practices, he makes the most of it,’ Fox said.
