Chiefs | Alex Smith shows well in first practice

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith connected with WR Dexter McCluster on a deep pass down the middle that was hauled in for a touchdown Friday, July 26, on the first play at training camp. More importantly than the big plays, head coach Andy Reid likes consistency, and Smith went several plays into practice before throwing his first incompletion. ‘There weren’t a lot of balls on the ground, and it looked like the defense had people covered,’ Reid said.

Raiders | Two work on side

Oakland Raiders LB Miles Burris (knee) and OT Menelik Watson (undisclosed) did not practice Friday, July 26, but they worked off to the side with team trainers. Watson is on the non-football injury (NFI) list due to an injury suffered recently, although head coach Dennis Allen did not give further details. Burris is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. Allen said he isn’t sure when either player would be able to practice.
