Patriots | Tim Tebow struggles in first day of camp

New England Patriots QB Tim Tebow struggled in his first day of camp Friday, July 26. He reportedly short-armed a few throws, had a delayed read on a 7-on-7 drills and had some passes deflected while forcing throws into coverage on other occasions. However, as usual, his ability to break the pocket and his movement skills stood out.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount runs with authority

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount reportedly looked energized and quicker than in offseason work on the first day of camp Friday, July 26.

Footballguys View: The Patriots could choose to carry four backs into the regular season if both Blount and Brandon Bolden continue to impress. New England would then be more encouraged to emphasize the run in their uptempo offense. Blount will need some injuries ahead of him to have fantasy value, but if he can make this roster, he’ll have great upside if and when his number is called as a starter in place of an injured Stevan Ridley.

Patriots | Josh Boyce on the field

New England Patriots WR Josh Boyce (foot) was on the field for workouts Friday, July 26, after being severely limited in the offseason program by a foot injury.

Footballguys View: Being on the field is a good start for Boyce, who has wide receiver speed in a running back body. The Patriots could choose to groom him as a slot receiver or an outside receiver, which could greatly effect his potential opportunity to contribute this year. Outside receiver has more immediate opportunity, but if Danny Amendola goes down, the backup slot receiver will be in for some good numbers. It’s probably Julian Edelman right now, but Boyce might get a shot if Edelman can’t stay healthy in camp.

Patriots | Brandon Bolden practices

New England Patriots RB Brandon Bolden (ankle) was able to take part in a full practice Friday, July 26, and he appeared to look to be back at full strength. Bolden missed offseason workouts due to a sprained ankle.

Footballguys View: The Patriots could react to their offseason tumult by becoming a more run-heavy than any of us expect, which would make Bolden a good end-of-the-draft pick, assuming he can beat out LeGarrette Blount. Bolden was effective last year, especially in short yardage. He is very similar to another former Patriot and Ole Miss back, Benjarvus Green-Ellis.

Jets | Santonio Holmes uncertain about season?

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) would not commit to playing this season when asked Friday, July 26. ‘I can’t answer that question right now,’ Holmes said. He remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, as he still recovers from foot surgery.

Footballguys View: Holmes shouldn’t be on your cheatsheets. Lis franc injuries can be worse than ACL tears for recovery time and allowing a player to get back to where he was before the injury. Holmes’ once-lofty dynasty value is close to non-existent. The Jets offense could be starting Braylon Edwards in week 1 and beyond.
