Bengals | Not ready to reduce role of BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden hinted before training camp that there might be an equal distribution of carries between RBs BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Giovani Bernard, but that is unlikely to happen. The team has been impressive by Bernard, but they’re not ready to reduce Green-Ellis’ role.

Footballguys View: We’ll see the team use both backs this season but the lead back could be Bernard. He’s simply more explosive and a better big play option than Green-Ellis.

Bengals | Jerome Harrison easily making transition

Cincinnati Bengals LB Jerome Harrison has easily made the transition from the 3-4 defensive scheme he was used to with the Pittsburgh Steelers to the 4-3 alignment of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. ‘He’s exceeded my expectations, to be honest with you. Typically, that transition is a little more difficult. Shoot, we’re finding a lot of things for him to do,’ Zimmer said. ‘The coverage was what I was a little worried about. But he’s doing things really well. We’ll find a lot of ways to use him in all kinds of different packages.’

Bengals | Wondering if Andy Dalton is franchise QB

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton has thrown for 47 touchdown passes in 32 career games, with only Hall of Famer QB Dan Marino (68) and Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (52) throwing for more in their first two NFL seasons. Still, he is 0-2 in the playoffs, and there are doubts whether Dalton can take the team to the next level.

Footballguys View: Dalton was compared to former Jets/Dolphins QB Chad Pennington because of his lack of arm strength and football intelligence. We’ll see if added weapons to the offense like RB Giovani Bernard and TE Tyler Eifert will help Dalton elevate his game in 2013.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles a favorite target

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has been a favorite target of QB Alex Smith in the passing game. He has also lined up as a wide receiver at times.

Footballguys View: Charles is going to be the centerpiece of the team’s offense, as he should. He’s a top 5 fantasy RB and should be among the first picks off the board in every fantasy draft.

Seahawks | Percy Harvin headed to PUP

Updating previous reports, Seattle Seahawks WR Percy Harvin (hip) will go on the Physically Unable to Perform list and can return to practice between Week 6 and Week 11.

Footballguys View: Harvin will have to be activated by Week 14 or go on Injured Reserve. The team is shooting for a Week 13 return. The Seahawks are expecting to make a postseason run in 2013 and getting Harvin back before the playoffs would be a boost for the offense.
