Panthers | Jon Beason could sit out training camp

Carolina Panthers LB Jon Beason (knee, shoulder) indicated there is a chance he does not practice during training camp because he is coming back from microfracture surgery. He said his goal is to be ready for the start of the regular season. Doctors have told Beason that he will have to manage his pain this season.

Footballguys View: Beason has endured a myriad of serious injuries, but like his teammate Thomas Davis, seems to somehow get back to a high enough level to start no matter what misfortune throws his way. Beason’s IDP value is on the fringes at this point, but if he can get on the field, he’ll probably be worth rostering in leagues that start 3+ linebackers.

Seahawks | Percy Harvin may need surgery

Updating previous reports, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said there is a possibility that WR Percy Harvin (hip) may need surgery on his injured hip. He is scheduled to get a second opinion on the injury.

Footballguys View: Carroll is one of the straighter shooters among NFL head coaches. It is sobering, but the reality is that we have no idea how many games Harvin will play this year in light of today’s news.
