Broncos | Lamaar Thomas works with second team

Denver Broncos WR Lamaar Thomas has worked with the second-team offense at times during practice during training camp and the preseason, and he has show the ability to be where the quarterbacks expect him to be. However, the receiver position is crowded, and he could be ticketed for the practice squad to start the season.

Footballguys View: Thomas had a couple of drops in practice which won’t help his case. He’s fast and does a good job of creating separation on his routes. Thomas is most certainly bound for the practice squad.

Broncos | Zac Dysert likely to practice squad

Denver Broncos QB Zac Dysert did not play in the team’s third preseason game, and he is expected to start the season on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys View: Dysert was highly regarded by some in the draftnik community but fell to the seventh-round of the 2013 NFL draft. He’s looked incredibly rough out at Broncos camp and the team shouldn’t have any problem sneaking him through to the practice squad. Brock Osweiler is seen as the primary backup while Dysert is just a developmental prospect.

Broncos | Expected to start with two QBs

The Denver Broncos are expected to start the season with just two quarterbacks – QB Peyton Manning and QB Brock Osweiler – on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys View: Osweiler has more experience this year than he did last year when the Broncos carried three QBs. He’s seen as the primary backup and QB of the future. Osweiler has had an up and down preseason but is still a player to monitor in dynasty leagues.

Steelers | Heath Miller to come off PUP soon

The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely to remove TE Heath Miller (knee) from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list when the team finalizes its 53-man roster prior to the start of the regular season.

Footballguys View: Great news for the Steelers here. However, there’s no word on when he’ll actually get back onto the football field. He may not go on the PUP list to start the regular season but he may not be ready to play until after week two.

Bills | Jeff Tuel might be start in Week 1

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that rookie QB EJ Manuel (knee) needs to be cleared to practice by Wednesday, Sept. 4, if he is to play in the regular season opener Sept. 8 against the New England Patriots. Even then, Manuel would need to pass an evaluation. QB Jeff Tuel legitimately has a chance to open the season as the starter.

Footballguys View: Tuel knows the system better than newly acquired Matt Leinart. He’s also the healthiest option the Bills have at QB right now. E.J. Manuel is the franchise QB and looked good in the first two weeks of the preseason. The team doesn’t want to rush him back too soon from his knee injury.

Bills | EJ Manuel needs to practice to play

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that QB EJ Manuel (knee) will need to be cleared for full practice by Wednesday, Sept. 4, to be comfortable to start him in the regular season opener Sept. 8 against the New England Patriots.

Footballguys View: It’s common practice around the NFL. You have to practice during the week if you want to play. Manuel looked solid in his first two preseason games and the future seems bright. There’s no need to rush him back before he’s ready.

Rams | Lance Kendricks nearing return

St. Louis Rams TE Lance Kendricks (knee) took part in a full practice session Monday, Aug. 26, and he participated in his first 11-on-11 drills since offseason knee surgery. ‘I feel really good out there,’ Kendricks said. ‘Just trying to knock the rust off and trying to get back to playing shape.’ He won’t play in the preseason finale Aug. 29 against the Baltimore Ravens, but said he expects to be a ‘go’ for the regular season opener Sept. 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.
