Ravens | Bernard Pierce dealing with injury

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (calf) is dealing with a calf strain he suffered in the team’s Week 4 game.

Footballguys View: We’re likely to see Pierce limited in practice while he deals with this injury. The Ravens backfield is a mess right now with both Pierce and Ray Rice a little banged up.

Colts | Bjoern Werner out 4-6 weeks

Indianapolis Colts LB Bjoern Werner (foot) will miss four to six weeks because of a torn plantar fascia.

Footballguys View: Bad news for the Colts here. The team’s first-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft had not been making the impact some had hoped early this season. Regardless, this is a blow to the pass rush. We’ll see more from Robert Mathis and Erik Walden while Werner is out.

Patriots | Richard Seymour not interested in joining team

Free-agent DT Richard Seymour (Raiders) said he is not interested in signing with the New England Patriots.

Footballguys View: The Patriots need to explore all option with Vince Wilfork out for the year due to an Achilles’ injury. It sounds like Seymour is not going to be an option at this time.

Browns | Sticking with Brian Hoyer

Updating previous items, Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer will remain the starting quarterback in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Oct. 3, even though QB Brandon Weeden (thumb) has been cleared to play after being out with a sprained right thumb. ‘I think he improved from the week before,’ Chudzinski said of Hoyer. ‘His decisions were very good. Just in talking him this morning, there were a few throws he would like to have made better. But you look at the drives — we had some long drives we were able to string together because some of the things he did on third down, the decisions he was making and the guys were rallying around him.’

Footballguys View: The Browns have found some energy in the offense with Hoyer under center. Brandon Weeden has been cleared to play but he’ll return as the backup behind Hoyer. Weeden could get another crack at the starting job if Hoyer struggles as the starter.
