Texans | Starting QB for Week 17 uncertain

Houston Texans interim head coach Wade Phillips said QB Case Keenum (thumb) has not been ruled out for Week 17 and will be evaluated during practice this week. Phillips indicated QB T.J. Yates could start over QB Matt Schaub if Keenum is not able to play.

Footballguys View: Schaub wasn’t the answer against the Broncos. The team may want to see if Yates can flash anything before the offseason. The Texans will likely own the number one overall pick, and they should take a franchise QB like Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville) there.

Cowboys | Tony Romo not ruled out yet

Updating a previous report, the Dallas Cowboys have not made a final determination about QB Tony Romo’s (back) status for Week 17, but QB Kyle Orton likely will start the game.

Footballguys View: The team has to monitor Romo’s back problem here. Orton is a decent backup who can keep an offense somewhat buoyant.

Texans | Dennis Johnson considered questionable

Houston Texans RB Dennis Johnson (hip) is considered questionable for Week 17 because of a hip injury.

Footballguys View: Johnson wasn’t impressive against the Broncos in Week 16. He’s quick and agile, but gets swallowed up too easily because of his lack of size and tackle-breaking ability.
