Texans | Hope to hire Bill O’Brien soon

The Houston Texans are hoping to hire Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien as their next head coach as soon as possible, according to owner Bob McNair. The Texans don’t want to risk losing O’Brien to the other teams that dismissed their head coaches Monday, Dec. 30. Former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith and interim head coach Wade Phillips have already been interviewed.

Jets | Eric Mangini could become next GM

San Francisco 49ers senior offensive consultant Eric Mangini could be the front-runner to take over as the general manager if the New York Jets fire general manager Jeff Ireland. Mangini has an excellent relationship with owner Stephen Ross. Other candidates for GM in Miami include assistant GM Brian Gaine, executive vice president of football administration Dawn Aponte, former Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum.

Browns | Norv Turner likely to be canned

Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner is ‘very likely’ to be fired. The Browns are looking for an offensive play caller to become their next head coach.

Footballguys View: This makes about as much sense as the Rob Chudzinski firing, as Turner kept the passing game viable through many quarterback changes and a backfield bereft of talent.
