Browns | Joe Banner had coordinators reporting to him

Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner, who is on his way out of the organization, had the new offensive and defensive coordinators reporting directly to him, according to a league source. The source said Banner was a bit of a control freak and structured the coaching staff so the coordinators answered directly to him. Coordinators generally answer directly to the head coach. New general manager Ray Farmer, who was the assistant GM at the time, was not involved in the search for a new head coach.

Footballguys View: Let’s hope the Browns can get things back on track with a new regime. Cleveland fans are some of the most passionate in all of professional football, and they deserve a better product.

Dolphins | John Denney rips Ted Wells report

Miami Dolphins LS John Denney, a union representative, said Ted Wells’ report on the debacle involving OT Jonathan Martin ‘nauseated him.’ He said Wells was paid to find a problem, so he found a problem. Denney also said the situation was overblown, and it might not have occurred if Martin handled the situation differently. ‘I was bullied as a rookie, everyone I’ve seen has been bullied as a rookie,’ Denney said. ‘If this is something that needs to be addressed then it should have been addressed my rookie year because nothing’s changed since Day One that I’ve been in the league.’

NFL | Michael Sam to be situational player

Missouri DE Michael Sam disappointed with a 4.91-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and a vertical jump of only 25 1/2 inches. He is considered a situational pass rusher at the next level, meaning he’ll probably be selected between the fourth and sixth rounds of the draft this year.

Footballguys View: Sam is a part-time pass-rusher at the next level. He lacks the explosion to create consistent pressure from the edge. Sam produced in college with heart, guile and a high motor.
