NFL | Chris Borland off a draft board

Wisconsin LB Chris Borland has been taken off one NFL team’s board because they believe he will need another surgery on his left shoulder, according to an executive involved with the team. ‘The issue with his shoulder is that he had a repair and the screw has kind of slid down into the joint,’ the executive said. ‘So there’s a feeling that he’s going to have to have another surgery. It would be his third one.’ Borland injured his left shoulder in 2009 and 2010 and underwent right shoulder surgery in 2010.

Footballguys View: Borland reminds many in the scouting community of former Dolphins/Cowboys LB Zach Thomas. He can find the ball quickly, and he arrives at the ball with violent force. Borland is a two-down thumper who will have to come off the field on passing downs.

Ravens | Ray Rice’s situation will not affect draft

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said RB Ray Rice’s off-field issues will not affect the team’s strategy during the 2014 NFL Draft. Newsome said the team was considering taking one or two running backs in the draft even before Rice’s issues.

Footballguys View: The Ravens need help at the running back position behind Rice and Bernard Pierce. We could see them look to add a back on the third day of the draft.
