Chargers | Ryan Mathews absent from OTAs

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews was not present at organized team activities Tuesday, May 27, so RBs Danny Woodhead, Donald Brown and Branden Oliver took handoffs and caught passes instead.

Footballguys View: There is no word as to why Mathews is missing OTAs. It must not be that big of a deal or else we’d be hearing about it. Keep tabs on this situation just in case.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd receives work in OTAs

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (neck) had the majority of passes go his way during organized team activities Tuesday, May 27, and it was his first practice since he suffered a serious neck injury in Week 2 of last season.

Footballguys View: Floyd is a favorite target of Philip Rivers, and it’s a boost for the passing game to get him back. We don’t think he’ll cut into Keenan Allen’s upside, as Allen is clearly the best weapon on the team.

Falcons | Roddy White’s new contract not a priority

The Atlanta Falcons don’t feel comfortable approach a new contract extension for WR Roddy White shortly after his brother was shot to death May 17. Both sides are content to let the mourning process play out before discussing business, but the belief is that a deal will be done by training camp.

Footballguys View: This is a no-brainer for both sides. White is a key weapon for them in the passing game, and he works well with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. He’s a nice value for fantasy owners at WR20 (5.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Texans | QB competition wide open

Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien is saying that right now, after the first day of organized team activities Tuesday, May 27, the quarterback competition is wide open between QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, T.J. Yates and Tom Savage. The team will look to make sure all of the quarterback repetitions are equal for all four quarterbacks, but they’ll look to narrow the focus as the season approaches.

Footballguys View: We’ll have a better idea of how things are working out when training camp is here. Right now, Ryan Fitzpatrick has to be considered the frontrunner at the position. He’s got better intelligence and more experience than any of the other quarterbacks on the roster. The main competition for Fitzpatrick could be the rookie Savage. He’s got a strong arm, but his accuracy and decision making needs a ton of work.

Dolphins | Keeping Dion Jordan as DE

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team considered moving DE Dion Jordan to outside linebacker this year but decided against it. Jordan has now bulked up in the offseason in order to be more effective as a pass rusher.

Footballguys View: Jordan could be in for a breakout season this year. He’s got to prove that he didn’t lose any of his quickness with the added weight. His speed and agility could make him a dominant edge-rusher in the NFL.
