Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson will be given the first shot at starting running back. He is more talented than RBs Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard, and the Colts don’t want to show that their trade for him last September was a failure.

Bears | Matthew Mulligan has good chance to make team
Chicago Bears TE Matthew Mulligan appears to have a very good chance to make the final roster because of his ability to block in addition to being a decent receiving threat.
Footballguys View: Mulligan was originally an undrafted free agent for the Dolphins coming out of Maine in 2008. He’s bounced around to several teams from then to now, but he might have a landing spot in Chicago this year. According to Pro Football Focus, Mulligan played 339 snaps for the Patriots in 2013. Mulligan could give the team valuable depth, but star tight end Martellus Bennett rarely comes off the field.

Titans | Looking for Jake Locker to be pocket passer
Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt is looking to make QB Jake Locker a pocket passer in his offense even though mobility is one of Locker’s strengths. The team will still use rollouts and bootlegs at times but most of Locker’s passes will come out of the pocket. Whisenhunt has been happy with how well Locker has picked up the offense this offseason. ‘Jake works hard,’ Whisenhunt said. ‘He’s done a great job as far as studying the offense and understanding his reads. He’s really done a good job with a lot of little things – his footwork, his techniques.’
Footballguys View: It has to be a make-or-break year for Locker in 2014. The team has a new regime, led by new head coach Ken Whisenhunt. If Locker doesn’t stay healthy and play up to his potential, the team could start looking for a new franchise quarterback. Whisenhunt worked wonders with Philip Rivers last year, and perhaps he could help boost Locker’s stock in 2014.

Steelers | Shamarko Thomas working with Troy Polamalu
Pittsburgh Steelers SS Shamarko Thomas has been working out with SS Troy Polamalu since the end of offseason workouts, according to CB Ike Taylor. Taylor said Polamalu invited Thomas to work out with him, which is something Polamalu rarely does with other players.
Footballguys View: A fourth-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft, Thomas has an aggressive mentality and arrives at the ball with natural violence–just like Polamalu. His aggressive nature will make him bite on play fakes, route fakes and head fakes. Thomas needs to tone it down just a bit so he doesn’t get out of position after the fake. We’ll see if working with Polamalu will help the young safety start to play up to his potential.
