Bills | Important season for Scott Chandler

Buffalo Bills TE Scott Chandler, an unrestricted free agent in 2016, is due to cost $2.85 million against the 2015 salary cap. Buffalo will save the entire amount by releasing him after the upcoming year. Chandler is entering his age-29 season in 2014 and may need to have a stronger than normal year to stick around for the duration of his current contract.

Panthers | Jason Avant helping the receiving corps

Carolina Panthers WR Jason Avant has earned praise form head coach Ron Rivera for the leadership he has shown to WR Kelvin Benjamin and the team’s other receivers. ‘Jason does things exactly the way you want them – he’s a pro,’ Rivera said. ‘In all honesty, the thought was that if you could have a couple of veteran guys who have been there and done that around a Kelvin Benjamin, that could be very good for him. And Jason has not just been good for Benjamin, he’s been good for a whole lot of guys.’

Footballguys View: The Panthers need all the help they can get. The team has arguably the worst group of receivers in the NFL. Avant is one of the most senior members of the group, and he may earn a starting or slot role with the team this year. Benjamin and one of Tavarres King, Marvin McNutt, Jerricho Cotchery and Avant will battle for the rest of the spots in the starting lineup.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar fully recovered, eyes expanded role

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (knee) said he feels 100 percent after missing the end of last season with a knee injury, and running backs coach Gary Brown plans to use the healthy Dunbar in variety of ways this season. ‘Well, he’s a guy that’s going to be a complete weapon,’ Brown said. ‘We can line him up anywhere on the team-tailback spot, at the wide receiver spot, in the slot. He has tremendous hands and he’s just not a specialty guy.’
