Steelers | Chris Carter improving, ready for bigger role

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Chris Carter said he needs to work on his pass coverage to become a more complete player, adding that he already has good pass-rushing skills. Former NFL LB and current Steelers’ defensive assistant Joey Porter has mentored Carter throughout the offseason. According to DL Steve McLendon, Carter looks good and is doing the right things off the field to put himself in the best situation on the field.

Footballguys View: Carter has always been a good straight-line athlete with an explosive first step. He needed to improve his lateral agility and get used to the speed of the game at the pro level. It sounds like Carter is ready to make that next step this year. With only six tackles in three seasons, Carter needs to start producing if he wants a future with the Steelers.

Bills | Fred Jackson wants to play a few more years

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson said he hopes to be able to play three or four more seasons but understands he needs to stay healthy and produce on the field.

Footballguys View: Jackson may be able to play a few more years, but his time in Buffalo might be drawing to a close. He’s in the final year of his contract, and the Bills have made preparations to replace him and/or C.J. Spiller. They traded for Bryce Brown earlier this year with the idea that he might be an eventual starter. We’ll see if Jackson can stay healthy and impress the Bills (or another team) this year.

Redskins | OC happy with Robert Griffin’s offseason work

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay said he was impressed with how QB Robert Griffin III picked up the offense this offseason and translating his knowledge to the field. ‘He did an excellent job above the neck,’ McVay said, ‘as far as absorbing the new system, some of the terminology. … He’s done an excellent job translating his knowledge in the meeting room onto the field, recognizing some of those looks. Some of the audible situations we’ll give him the opportunity to call things at the line. He’s shown he’s fully capable of doing it and that’s what gives him a great chance to have success this year.’

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson recently refuted involvement in any gang activities and added that any supposed gang signs he makes are simply hand gestures meant for friends from his childhood.
