Buffalo Bills LB Ty Powell appears to have a good chance on making the final roster since LB Kiko Alonso (knee) is expected to miss the 2014 season. Powell is also considered one of the team’s better special teams player and has the ability to play inside and outside linebacker.

Free-agent CB Jabari Greer (knee) is progressing really well, but does not expect to be able to work out of any teams in time for training camp. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament and total posterior lateral compartment during a game Sunday, November 17, last season. However, his medial collateral ligament and meniscus remained perfectly healthy. Greer is not actively pursuing any opportunities to return to the NFL right now, and he will not attempt a comeback until he is 100 percent healthy. Currently, he can do everything in his rehab, but not at full speed.

Jones would like to be a three-down player, but he has not carved out a role in obvious run situations. By his own admission, Jones relied too much on his quickness and athleticism last season rather than using his power. This year, he plans to attack offensive linemen with his strength in an effort improve upon his 3.5-sack rookie season.

Chicago Bears LB Christian Jones has caught the attention of linebackers coach Reggie Herring. ‘We’ve got a young Jones player from Florida State, who is doing an incredible job and flashes and shows he has a chance to be a good player.’ Jones started at all three linebacker positions and then shifted to defensive end in his final season at Florida State. With his versatility, Jones could fight for time on the field if given a legitimate opportunity by the staff.

Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs is the only linebacker assured of starting, according to the coaching staff. Briggs will start at weakside linebacker. It is expected LB D.J. Williams will win the starting job at middle linebacker, and LBs Jonathan Bostic and Shea McClellin will compete to start at strongside linebacker. It is expected Bostic will start, because he is the superior athlete, whereas McClellin could end up in some sub packages as an extra pass rusher.
