Cowboys | Acquire Rolando McClain

The Dallas Cowboys acquired LB Rolando McClain (Ravens) from the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, July 1.

Footballguys View: The team is desperate, and they wanted to add another body to compete at middle linebacker since Sean Lee was lost for the year with a knee injury earlier this offseason. McClain has retired twice in the last year or so, and he’s gone down as one of the biggest first-round busts in recent history. If healthy and motivated (two gigantic ifs), McClain could compete for the starting job in the middle with Justin Durant.

Redskins | Andre Roberts has come to terms with depth chart

Washington Redskins WR Andre Roberts has come to terms with being No. 3 on the depth chart. Roberts said he may have gone in a different direction during free agency if he knew WR DeSean Jackson was going to sign, but plans to make the best of the situation.

Footballguys View: Competition should only make you better. Yes, Roberts had visions of being a WR2 opposite Pierre Garcon when he originally signed with Washington–but things change pretty quickly in the NFL. Bottom line: He’ll get over it.

Packers | Nick Perry needs to step up

Green Bay Packers LB Nick Perry is the player that needs to step up, according to Rob Demovsky, and that starts with staying healthy in 2014.

Footballguys View: Six sacks in two years is not what the Packers had in mind when they selected Perry in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft. He’s only played in 17 games over two seasons, so staying healthy is priority number one for Perry.

Cardinals | Coach praises John Abraham

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians praised LB John Abraham, and does not see him slowing down in 2014. “He did it last year and there’s no reason to think he’s going to slow down,” Arians said. “He’s one of those freaks of nature. He just keeps getting it done. We are looking forward to another big year out of him.”

Footballguys View: The Cardinals have a swarming defense, and Abraham is going to help them get after the passer. He may not be quite the player he used to be, but Abraham could still collect about 10 sacks this year.

Falcons | Coach thinks team will rebound

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians thinks the Atlanta Falcons will bounce back this year, and he is not looking forward to playing them in 2014. “I’m not looking forward it,” Arians said. “I thought (general manager Thomas Dimitroff) and (head coach Mike Smith) did a great job of really securing their lines of scrimmage, which I know was their goal. I know that Matt (Ryan) is going to come back strong. I could see the Falcons bouncing back real big this year.”

Footballguys View: We’re in agreement with Dodds, errrr… Arians here. The Falcons just need Julio Jones to stay healthy and that will greatly benefit what they do with their passing game. The running game will get a boost from rookie Devonta Freeman, and he can also be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. The defense still has issues, so Atlanta is going to have to keep their foot on the gas as an offense and win shootouts in 2014.

Bengals | Dane Sanzenbacher feeling more comfortable

Cincinnati Bengals WR Dane Sanzenbacher recently said he has a higher comfort level now that he’s been with the team for more than a season. ‘The longer you’re there, the more of a comfort level you have,’ Sanzenbacher said. ‘It’s easier to perform well when you’re in a place that you like.’ Sanzenbacher also said he’s been training in Arizona in preparation for training camp in late July.

Jaguars | Sherrod Martin has edge with experience

Jacksonville Jaguars SS Sherrod Martin has 36 starts in the NFL under his belt. The rest of the team’s safeties have one combined.

Footballguys View: We’re certain that experience is going to pay off for Martin when it comes to making the 53-man roster. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said that Martin is ‘very hard-working, internally driven and performs like he’s not going to miss this.’ The second-year coach also added that experience is great to have in the locker room. The Jaguars are on the right track with Bradley, and we trust him to make sound decisions–especially on the defensive side of the ball.
