Houston Texans OG Brandon Brooks (ankle) is hopeful of returning in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons after spraining his left ankle in Week 3. ‘Very hopeful,’ Brooks said. ‘It’s pretty much up in the air right now, but I am hoping to play. It’s getting better, a little bit of swelling. It’s not my first sprained ankle,’ Brooks said.

Jets | No more laterals for Brandon Marshall
New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said he won’t be lateraling anymore following a failed attempt in a Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Head coach Todd Bowles reprimanded Marshall after the game. ‘He made catches, but he dropped a ball or two and he turned the ball over, so that’s not a good game by his standards or our standards,’ Bowles said.
Footballguys View: Marshall was trying to make a play, but the NFL is not playground football. We’re certain he’ll just go down when tackled instead of looking for a teammate to lateral the ball to next time.
Redskins | Matt Jones needs better ball security
Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones needs to improve his ball security of he wants to continue to be part of the offense, according to head coach Jay Gruden. ‘Definitely you’re concerned,’ Gruden said. ‘The two biggest traits in a back are durability and ball security, and he’s proved to be pretty durable so far, but the ball security thing is an issue. We’ve got to get it corrected.’ Jones has lost two fumbles in his last two games.
Footballguys View: Jones had fumbling issues in college at Florida, and those have followed him to the pros. We’ll see if the rookie can tighten up his grip and earn a larger role on offense.
Bears | Jared Allen traded away
The Chicago Bears traded DE Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers Monday, Sept. 28, in exchange for a conditional draft pick. The Bears are paying $11.5 million of Allen’s salary, while Carolina will pay him $823,000, according to sources.
Footballguys View: Allen did not fit into the Bears 3-4 defense, and he should look more at home as a defensive end with the Panthers. Charles Johnson is banged up with a hamstring injury, so the Panthers needed to make a move to add a pass-rusher. Allen is not the same player he used to be, but he could work well as a part-time player for the Panthers.
