Buccaneers | TB talking extension with Doug Martin

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and RB Doug Martin’s representatives have started discussing a contract extension. Martin, who is slated to be a free agent in 2016, finished second for the league rushing title behind Adrian Peterson. He also scored six touchdowns. If the team cannot work out an extension they do not plan on using the franchise tag on him.

Broncos | Denver running game has been producing

The Denver Broncos have averaged 29.9 rushing attempts and 128.0 rushing yards (eight touchdowns) in their last nine games with RBs C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman. The Broncos are unbeaten when they record at least 30 rushes and 130-plus rushing yards in a game this season. Anderson has been the more productive runner in a featured role.

Panthers | Ted Ginn a deep threat

Carolina Panthers WR Ted Ginn Jr. averaged 16.8 yards per catch and scored 10 receiving touchdowns in the regular season.

Footballguys View: In other news; Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father. Ginn is–and has ALWAYS been–a deep threat…even dating back to his days in college at Ohio State. We’ll see if this deep threat can attack the Broncos secondary on those long routes. We’ll also see if the Panthers can give QB Cam Newton that much time to throw against the Broncos defense.

Redskins | Long-term deal for Kirk Cousins?

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is expected to be re-signed this offseason, and general manager Scot McCloughan prefers signing him to a long-term deal instead of giving their quarterback the franchise tag. A long-term deal would be in the $17-20 million range, according to McCloughan, while Washington would have to pay Cousins about $20 million if they were to tag him.

Cowboys | Dallas may not draft QB

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he doesn’t feel pressured to draft a quarterback in 2016 as QB Tony Romo’s heir apparent. ‘There are many options,’ Jones said. ‘There’s free agency … We have to (draft a QB) to do what? We have to win a Super Bowl next year? Do we have to compete for a Super Bowl in the future? Do you have to have it in place after this draft? There’s no have-to here, in my mind, because we have the luxury of having Romo here for three, four, five more years.’

Panthers | Thomas Davis had plate put in arm

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) had a plate put into his broken forearm during surgery Monday, Jan. 25, but head coach Ron Rivera can’t imagine that Davis won’t play in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos. Rivera also said Davis will wear some sort of protective cast or splint on his arm. ‘I’m not doubting Thomas,’ Rivera said.
