Panthers | Two Panthers backs ease in
Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (rest) and RB Mike Tolbert (knee) did little-to-no work at practice Friday, Jan. 29, but RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) returned to practice.
Footballguys View: The duo has some time to rest before things ramp up. Super Bowl 50 features the Panthers going up against a tough Broncos run defense. We’re not expecting a ton from either back, and there’s a chance that QB Cam Newton could finish the game as the team’s leading rusher.
Eagles | Lane Johnson signs new deal
Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson signed a six-year contract through the 2021 season Friday, Jan. 29.
Footballguys View: The Eagles have been spending some money over the last week or so. With tight ends Brent Celek and Zach Ertz wrapped up, the Eagles moved on to get Johnson’s deal secure. With a $9.7 million cap hit in 2016, LT Jason Peters may not be back with the team. That means Johnson could be asked to shift over to the left side in the near future.
Dolphins | Miami to have up-tempo offense
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will run an offense under new offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen that resembles what QB Peyton Manning ran with the Indianapolis Colts.
Footballguys View: With new head coach Adam Gase, we’re really excited by what the Dolphins offense could be. They should be able to get the best out of QB Ryan Tannehill, and that makes WRs Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker even more exciting fantasy options for the 2016 season. Using tempo as a weapon and improving the play from the defense could make the Dolphins an exciting team to watch.
Cowboys | Greg Hardy not returning
Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy is not expected to be re-signed by the team due to excessive partying.
Eagles | Philly could let Sam Bradford walk
Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford could hit the open market if the team believes there is a franchise quarterback available in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Texans | Arian Foster working to return
Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (Achilles’) has been in the team’s facilities working hard on his rehab, according to head coach Bill O’Brien.
Giants | Jon Beason wants to stay in New York
New York Giants LB Jon Beason (knee) said he ‘absolutely’ wants to remain with the Giants in 2016 if he is able to continue his playing career.
Redskins | Matt Jones not guaranteed to start
Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones won’t necessarily be the workhorse back in 2016 if RB Alfred Morris leaves in free agency because the team isn’t sure Jones can fix everything he needs to over one offseason in order to become a lead back.
Steelers | Heath Miller back in 2016?
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller likely will be back with the team next year, despite carrying a cap hit of $7.2 million, according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.
