The Seattle Seahawks and QB Russell Wilson qualify as the youngest team in the NFL entering the 2016 season with an average age of 23.53. The Los Angeles Rams (23.96), Green Bay Packers (24.13), Miami Dolphins (24.39) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (24.51) make up the rest of the top five.
Browns | Johnny Manziel case to grand jury
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel’s domestic violence case is heading to a grand jury to determine if Manziel will be indicted for a class A misdemeanor assault. The Dallas Police Department said they are through with their investigation and it will not release any further details of the investigation while it is pending grand jury presentation.
Packers | Eddie Lacy devoted to weight loss
Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy has sought help from P90X founder Tony Horton in order to get into better shape for the 2016 season. ‘Eddie will take care of business,’ head coach Mike McCarthy said. ‘I have great confidence that he will. I think we’ll see definitely a different guy in April, and more importantly in July.’
NFL | Ezekiel Elliott plans to run this week
Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott said he plans to run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine this week, and he also thinks he’s the best running back in this year’s draft. He’s aiming to run the 40-yard dash in the 4.4- to 4.5-second range. ‘I’m a guy that can play three downs. You don’t have to take me off the field. I value blocking more than anything. I obviously love to run the ball, and I think I have great hands out of the backfield,’ Elliott said.
Broncos | No tag for Brock Osweiler
Denver Broncos impending free-agent QB Brock Osweiler will not have the franchise tag used on him, according to general manager John Elway.
Footballguys View: Well it’d be a lot of money for a potential backup, so we’re not shocked. Do they have a plan B though? Osweiler was OK in Peyton Manning’s absence, but not good enough to automatically lock down a starting job and the money that a franchise tag will bring.
NFL | Carson Wentz confident in self
North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz didn’t go as far as to say he’s the best quarterback in this year’s draft, but he did say he’s focused on himself and being the best he can be, adding that he believes he can be a franchise quarterback.
Footballguys View: Wentz was spotty under pressure this past season and that was against “lesser” opponents. He’s raw, but he has upside. We won’t learn how he can handle pressure until he’s under center in an NFL game and Jared Goff is more ‘shake and bake” ready right now. We’ll see how things shake out in April, but we do like Wentz’s upside.
Broncos | Peyton Manning needs more time
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning needs more time to decide whether he wants to continue his playing career, and general manager John Elway said the Broncos will give Manning as much time as he needs. Elway said he’ll meet with Manning again in seven to 10 days. ‘We’re really not in a hurry,’ Elway said. ‘It’s really fluid. We know where Brock is and he knows what we have to offer.’
Footballguys View: How much time does he need? We think the Broncos are done with Manning…even if by some chance he still wants to play. We’ll know in about a week what the team is going to do.
