Texans | Jaelen Strong arrested

Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong was allegedly arrested for marijuana possession in Phoenix Sunday, Feb. 28. Strong was taken into custody and later released. Officers said they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle in which Strong was the passenger. Strong allegedly admitted he was in possession of some marijuana and did not have a medical marijuana card.

Buccaneers | No tag for Doug Martin

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin will not receive the franchise tag. Negotiations for a long-term deal are ongoing.

Footballguys View: Reports indicate that Martin wants about $7 million per year, and we’re not sure the Bucs will pay that. If Martin hits the open market, he might not get that price either. A team like the Titans could show interest in Martin if he’s available.

Texans | Brock Osweiler to Houston possible?

Denver Broncos impending free-agent Brock Osweiler’s next best suitor could be the Houston Texans if he is not retained by the Broncos, in the opinion of CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora.

Footballguys View: The Texans feel with their defense they are just a QB away from competing deep in the playoffs. Osweiler is working on a deal with the Broncos, but his future with the team is unclear at this time. The Broncos may want to pay him around $10-12 million annually while the market could fetch Osweiler $15 million or more per year.

Saints | James Laurinaitis visiting with Saints

Free-agent LB James Laurinaitis (Rams) is scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, March 1, according to a source.

Footballguys View: This move was expected when the Rams let Laurinaitis go. The veteran linebacker isn’t the same player as he used to be, but he could still snare around 50 solo tackles for the Saints if they add him.

Saints | Marques Colston released

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (undisclosed) was cut with a failed physical designation Monday, Feb. 29.

Footballguys View: A sad day indeed. Colston was a seventh-round pick out of Hofstra in 2006, and we felt he could finish his career with the Saints. The move to cut him frees up $3.2 million in cap space for the Saints. We’ll see if he can latch on with another team as veteran depth. Fantasy owners should expect little from Colston if he does sign somewhere else. This move also spikes Brandon Coleman’s dynasty value as he’ll be tasked with being the team’s big slot receiver in Colston’s absence.
