Jets | New York could draft quarterback

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick could have more depth behind him after the NFL Draft. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News said it would not be surprising if the Jets selected a quarterback at some point in the draft, adding that they wouldn’t hesitate to draft a quarterback with their No. 20 overall pick if they were strongly convicted with someone still on the board.

Footballguys View: Geno Smith didn’t turn out to be the franchise QB the Jets had hoped for, so they’re going to continue looking for a long-term answer. With the 20th pick, perhaps somebody like Paxton Lynch (Memphis) or Connor Cook (Michigan State) would still be on the board.

Chargers | Antonio Gates talks to open next week

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent TE Antonio Gates will begin contract talks with the team at the NFL Scouting Combine next week.

Footballguys View: It would be difficult to imagine Gates playing in another uniform. We think the two sides should come together on a new agreement. Gates isn’t the same player he used to be, so his contract won’t be over the top.
