Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson gives good news

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) visited with a doctor Thursday, Feb. 18, and said his leg responded great. Wilkerson will start his rehab ahead of schedule.

Footballguys View: There have been some who think the Jets should move on from Wilkerson, but people inside the Jets’ facility will privately tell you he is the best player on defense by far – and one of the two or three best on the team as a whole. The Jets would do well to work on keeping him around.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles likely to stay

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee), who is apparently ahead in his rehab from a knee injury, is likely to remain with the Chiefs in 2016, according to general manager John Dorsey. ‘Well, as I look at it right now, Jamaal … I think he may be ahead of schedule in terms of his rehabilitation,’ Dorsey said. ‘The guy is an extremely talented player. Love him to death. Love how dirty-tough he is. Yeah, he’s a Chief.’ The Chiefs could save around $5.3 million by releasing Charles.

Cowboys | Robert Griffin a bad fit for Dallas?

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is an even worse fit for the Dallas Cowboys than Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel, a member of Dallas’ front office said in December. The Cowboys run a timing-based passing scheme on offense, and from what Griffin has shown so far in his career, he wouldn’t be a good fit as the backup to QB Tony Romo.

Lions | Calvin Johnson still undecided

The Detroit Lions continue to wait on WR Calvin Johnson as he contemplates retirement. President Rod Wood said that he doesn’t have a sense of what Johnson plans on doing, and there is no definitive timetable for a decision. The start of the new league year isn’t really a deadline because they want to give Johnson all the time he needs. Johnson carries a $24 million salary cap hit in 2016.
