Redskins | Kirk Cousins not a lock for tag

Updating previous reports, it’s not a foregone conclusion that the Washington Redskins would place the franchise tag on impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins if a long-term deal can’t be reached by March 1. The Redskins want to keep Cousins, but only at the right price. Placing the tag on him would cost them roughly $20 million for one year.

Lions | Joique Bell could be cut

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is in the second year of a three-year, $9.3 million deal and is slated to earn $2.5 million in base salary in 2016 and count $3.5 million against the salary cap. Detroit would save $2.5 million by releasing him, and it’s a real possibility given the fact that Bell is about to turn 30 years old and has struggled to stay healthy.

Lions | Theo Riddick could have bigger role

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick, who led all running backs in catches last year after starting fourth on Detroit’s depth chart, could be in line for a much bigger role in 2016. Riddick played most of the year behind RBs Joique Bell and Ameer Abdullah, too. Former NFL RB Marshall Faulk indicated Bell likely played more because he was being paid more. Riddick will likely be headed toward a bigger role next year regardless of what happens with Bell’s contract.
