49ers | Colin Kaepernick trade may still happen

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick could still be traded this week, according to general manager Trent Baalke.

Footballguys View: This is no surprise, as the draft acts as a “deadline” for teams to make deals because they won’t get their compensation until next year if they wait for this year’s draft to end before sealing a deal. Teams are also making decisions in the draft based on their current roster, so it is important to square that away during this NFL plate tectonic shift. Kaepernick has been rumored to be a Bronco as long as the 49ers get a quarterback in this draft.

Browns | Ezekiel Elliott at No. 8 by way of CLE?

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott has a number of teams calling the Cleveland Browns trying to move up to their eighth pick to select him in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Footballguys View: The Miami Dolphins, who originally had the #8 pick, are likely to be willing to pay the most to get him because of their need at running back. The Giants (10), Bears (11) and Raiders (14) could also be teams interested in Elliott, or being used as pawns by the Browns to wring more out of the Dolphins. If Elliott doesn’t go to the Cowboys at #4 or Ravens at #6 (both of which seem unlikely), he’ll be there for the Browns.

Colts | Jihad Ward meets with Colts

Illinois DT Jihad Ward met with Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano and general manager Ryan Grigson Tuesday, April 26.

Footballguys View: Ward is versatile and athletic, but he is still a project as a defensive lineman after starting his junior college career as a wide receiver/safety. The Colts should be looking at him in the second round, although his ceiling could get him into first round consideration.

Cowboys | Jalen Ramsey to Cowboys?

Florida State CB/S Jalen Ramsey is a player the Dallas Cowboys are targeting if he’s available at No. 4 in the 2016 NFL Draft, according to sources.

Footballguys View: They only have to hope the Chargers don’t take him at 3, or that the Chargers don’t trade down to a team coveting Ramsey. If Ramsey is gone at 4, the Cowboys are expected to take Ohio State DE Joey Bosa or RB Ezekiel Elliott.

NFL | Jaylon Smith likely gone by Round 4

Notre Dame LB Jaylon Smith (knee) is expected to be selected by the end of the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, according to sources.

Footballguys View: A nerve in Smith’s knee has to regrow to him full function in the leg before he can play football again. That could happen in the near future, but it is a huge risk for the team taking him. Smith has top 10 pick game, but won’t go until the second day or maybe even third because of this injury. If he can get back to his old form in 2017 (Smith reportedly will not play in 2016 in any scenario), he will be one of the steals of the draft.

Dolphins | Cameron Wake able to practice

Miami Dolphins DE Cameron Wake (Achilles’) was able to practice Tuesday, April 26, just six months after tearing his Achilles’ tendon. He worked on a limited basis, and didn’t participate in team or 7-on-7 drills, but still impressive fellow DE Andre Branch. ‘That’s awesome. He’s definitely a vet in his league. He’s been playing at a high level for a long period of time. He leads by example. He’s the type of player you follow,’ Branch said. Head coach Adam Gase said the goal is to have Wake 100 percent when training camp arrives.
