NFL | Ezekiel Elliott compared to NFL great

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott can be an Adrian Peterson-type running back if he stays healthy, according to an anonymous scout. ‘He can catch it, he can pass protect, he’s got NFL size and he can run,’ the scout said. Elliott has been compared to Peterson before by another anonymous scout.

Footballguys View: We don’t think he’s quite to Peterson’s level, but Elliott could be close. Elliott has good burst, is a fine receiver out of the backfield plus he’s intent when running between the tackles. He’s clearly the best RB in this draft class, and he could be a top-10 pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

Giants | Jason Pierre-Paul confident for 2016

New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (hand) said he will be better than he was in 2015, adding that he is still the player he used to be. Pierre-Paul will wear a special glove on his injured hand in 2016 to help him rush better. The defensive end said he’s recovered from his offseason surgery and has no limitations. Participating in minicamp will help him, too, he admitted, as he refused to participate in offseason workouts last year.

Giants | Victor Cruz glad to be back

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) was glad to be back among his teammates and coaches during the Giants’ first offseason workout Tuesday, April 26. Head coach Ben McAddo is taking it slow with Cruz this offseason, but said he’s ready to practice. Cruz anticipates being the same player he used to be before suffering his prolonged injuries. ‘I’m not in the business to go out there and be half of myself or half of what I was,’ Cruz said. ‘I want to go out there and be 100% and be the same player that I once was.’

Footballguys View: Another day, and another positive report about Cruz. We get it, he’s a fan favorite who is battling back from a serioius knee injury. He may never be the same player he used to be, but we’re cheering for Cruz to at least be an effective starter for the Giants. We’ll know more about how realistic that hope is once training camp gets here.

Giants | Larry Donnell had serious injury

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) said he had a broken bone in his neck last year to a certain extent, adding that the injury was worse than he thought.

Footballguys View: Donnell was a top-12 fantasy TE (11th) in 2014, but last year he only played in eight games and the numbers fell off. Any neck injury is a serious injury, but it sounds like Donnell is healthy and ready to compete at a high level. We’ll be interested to see if he can bounce back in 2016.
