Giants | Tempered expectations for Victor Cruz

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz’s (knee, calf) progress has pleased doctors, but general manager Jerry Reese said the team isn’t counting on Cruz to produce in 2016. ‘We expect him to be full go,’ Reese said. ‘He hasn’t played in two years. He’s probably more healthy than he’s been in the last two years. What we get from Victor will be a bonus and we’re hoping it’s a great bonus for us.’

Browns | Robert Griffin not guaranteed to start

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III will have to compete for the starting quarterback job during training camp even though the team traded down in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, according to vice president of football operations Sashi Brown. Head coach Hue Jackson said Griffin’s presence on the team did not affect the trade.

Footballguys View: Jackson knows he has to push Griffin, so this is no shock. If Griffin cannot beat out Josh McCown, Austin Davis, Connor Shaw, Pat Devlin and whatever rookie shows up, he doesn’t deserve the job. We think he has the upside but have no real idea how he will perform and whether he can physically hold up.

NFL | Two teams to meet with Cardale Jones

Ohio State QB Cardale Jones will meet with the San Diego Chargers and Arizona Cardinals next week, according to Cleveland-area high school coach Ted Ginn Sr. Ginn will also meet with the Chargers and Cardinals regarding Jones. Jones played quarterback for Ginn in high school.

Footballguys View: Jones has the size and the arm, but isn’t quite as developed from an accuracy and game management standpoint. He’s going to take time. A team like San Diego or Arizona has a starter in place and can work with Jones to develop while being patient.
