Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) said he doesn’t necessarily want to play if he’s only at 90% health when the regular season begins. Mathieu’s goal was to return by the regular season opener Sept. 11, but he doesn’t want to make the mistake of coming back too early, which he said he did when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in 2013.
Footballguys View: We’ll be watching this situation closely as it continues to unfold. Obviously Mathieu is a fine player but injuries have knocked his pro career off track. Mathieu did say his rehabilitation is going as planned so far, though, but he wants to come back properly.
