Steelers | Lawrence Timmons not close to extension

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons isn’t close to a contract extension, and he’s slated to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Footballguys View: Timmons represents a 15 million dollar cap hit this year, which is too much for a 30-year linebacker who was coming out at times in subpackages for the first time in his career last year. The Steelers have a long history of letting players test the market if their demands are more than they think the player is worth. 2016 seventh-round pick Tyler Matakevich is a deep sleeper in dynasty IDP leagues on the possibility that Timmons walks in 2017.

Colts | Indianapolis using three receiver sets

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton, WR Donte Moncrief and WR Phillip Dorsett have been part of the three-receiver lineup implemented by offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski in the first two days of training camp. Under former offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton, Indianapolis primarily used two-tight end sets.

Footballguys View: We like Moncrief to play a little more consistently as a WR3, with Dorsett a WR6. Of course, TY Hilton is the WR2 gem of the bunch. All of this only matters if Andrew Luck bounces back from a terrible – and injury filled – 2015.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin close to 100%

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) is close to top form, head coach Ron Rivera said Saturday, July 30, and wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl said he has been impressed by Benjamin’s ability to make contested catches.

Footballguys View: Looks like the torn ACL is not a factor, so Benjamin should be prime for a great WR2 kind of season. The offense struggled at times without him, so expect Cam Newton to use him early and often.
