NFL | T.J. Yates cleared to play

Free-agent QB T.J. Yates (Texans) has been fully cleared after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament last season, according to a source.

Footballguys View: A team that could show interest in Yates is Denver — especially if (when?) they cut Mark Sanchez. Yates came up under Gary Kubiak during his time in Denver. He knows the system, and Yates would give the Broncos a veteran presence behind starter Trevor Siemian and future starter Paxton Lynch.

Titans | David Cobb let go

Tennessee Titans RB David Cobb was waived Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys View: The Titans backfield was jam-packed with the free agent addition of DeMarco Murray and the second-round selection of Derrick Henry this year. Cobb is an instinctive runner but he lacks the quickness or burst to be a successful pro back. He was competing with Antonio Andrews and Bishop Sankey for a low spot on the depth chart.

49ers | Bruce Ellington lands on the IR

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 30. He is out for the season.

Footballguys View: There goes an interesting dynasty prospect, down for the year. Ellington could work well as a slot receiver in Chip Kelly’s system, but now we’ll have to wait and see if he can make a comeback next year. It looks like Jeremy Kerley could be the team’s slot WR in 2016.
