Saints | Drew Brees contract not an issue

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees’ contract is not an issue, according to Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. Brees is entering the final year of his contract after signing a one-year extension leading up to the 2016 NFL season. Loomis praised Brees’ high level of play and said he hasn’t yet thought about why approaching Brees’ contract this year will be different than last year.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin on his way out?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is not part of the short- or long-term plans of the Buccaneers, in the opinion of Rick Stroud, of the Tampa Bay Times. Martin signed a five-year, $33.75 million contract, with $15 million guaranteed, in March of 2016, but that guaranteed money is voided because of his four-game suspension after testing positive for Adderall.

Cowboys | Charles Tapper cleared

Dallas Cowboys DE Charles Tapper (back) announced that he has been medically cleared to play in 2017.

Footballguys View: A fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, we didn’t get to see Tapper during his rookie season due to a broken back. Tapper is a raw player who needs to work on his technique, but he has the natural strength to stuff the run with authority.

Falcons | Matt Ryan trending towards Super Bowl win

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has thrown for seven touchdowns and zero interceptions this postseason. The last six quarterbacks to register that many touchdown passes without recording an interception in the playoffs — Joe Flacco (2012), Drew Brees (2009), Steve Young (1994), Troy Aikman (1992), Joe Montana (1989) and Phil Simms (1986) — would all go on to win the Super Bowl that season.
