Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Landry Jones is a candidate to return to the Steelers. General manager Kevin Colbert said Pittsburgh would like to re-sign their backup and keep him ‘in the mix.’ It was reported earlier that the Steelers view Jones as an elite NFL backup.

Broncos | Mike McCoy confident he can improve DEN QBs
Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy believes he can adjust his system to get the most out of either QB Trevor Siemian or QB Paxton Lynch. McCoy previously held the same position with the Broncos before becoming the San Diego Chargers’ head coach, and he was known for his ability to create offenses tailored to his personnel.
Raiders | Subtle changes coming for Oakland offense
Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Todd Downing said he will not make changes just for the sake of making them after replacing Bill Musgrave. ‘Oh, it will be very subtle,’ Downing said in a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Feb. 15. ‘We’re going to keep the same system terminology. There’s no reason to change any of that stuff. All we’re doing right now is finding the ways that we can all individually do our jobs better, prepare our positions better, and how we can just quarter-turn a couple things to make the offense as efficient as possible.’
Raiders | Derek Carr will have say in game planning
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will have a voice in the game planning, according to new offensive coordinator Todd Downing, who was promoted from quarterbacks coach after former offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave’s contract expired. ‘There’s been a lot made about his command at the line of scrimmage. There’s certainly going to be opportunities for Derek to do that,’ Downing said. ‘… Where I see him needing a little bit more command is just being able to share his thoughts of game plans. Being a student of the game, as he already is, but vocalize what he likes and doesn’t like. I think my relationship with him is something that’s going to give him the opportunity to voice his opinions. I look forward to him really taking charge of expressing his thoughts on the offense.’
Buccaneers | Doug Martin still in Bucs’ plans?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin was expected to be released or traded before the 2017 NFL season, but the front office may be willing to keep Martin around and ‘play the situation out,’ according to Roy Cummings, of FloridaFootballInsiders.com. Martin is suspended the first three games of 2017 and will not cost the team any money if he is indeed released.
NFL | Chad Kelly will not attend combine
Mississippi QB Chad Kelly (knee) was initially invited to attend the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, but the offer was rescinded by the league. It remains unclear as to why the invitation was pulled.
Cowboys | Tony Romo anticipating his release
Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is expecting to be released this offseason. He believes he can be a starter in the league for two or three more years.
Footballguys View: There are several teams who will probably kick the tires on him, especially given the lack of talent on the market. Romo’s best fit would be for a team on the cusp of contending though, and most of the teams in need of a quarterback need far more than that. If he lands in one of those situations, his production could be awfully shaky. Add in his propensity towards injury and his fantasy value is likely to be low.
Dolphins | Branden Albert to be released
Miami Dolphins OT Branden Albert will be released Thursday, Feb. 16.
Footballguys View: Not a surprise and it looks like the market will see a lot of declining tackles this offseason. This likely means Laremy Tunsil will kick over to left tackle, which should result in the Dolphins hitting the market for a guard, and perhaps addressing that position in the draft as well.
Seahawks | C.J. Prosise will be ready for OTAs
Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (shoulder) is expected to be ready for organized team activities and minicamp. He’s slated to be the third-down back and a change-of-pace option on early downs.
Footballguys View: The Seahawks had to adjust on the fly a lot this season, as their backfield was beset by injuries and under-performing running backs. It will take two backs to replace the production of Marshawn Lynch, as we saw last year, which will make neither back the fantasy producer Lynch was. His ability to catch a ball will make Prosise a bit more valuable in PPR leagues though.
