Steelers | Le’Veon Bell’s injury being investigated

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell (groin) and the Steelers are being investigated by the NFL over injury report protocol regarding Bell’s groin injury. The injury was not listed on injury reports in the weeks before the AFC Championship. Bell left that game because of the groin injury.

Footballguys View: The Steelers injury reports have been a little wonky, and of course the NFL is going to look into this situation. Pittsburgh has said that Bell’s injury did not impact his practice participation as Bell missed practice due to a personal matter, not an injury. These investigations may lead to fines, suspensions or lost draft picks.

Steelers | Sammie Coates had hernia surgery

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates (hernia) recently underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia, according to a source. On another note, it was confirmed that Coates did not have surgery on his fingers, contrary to a previous report.

Footballguys View: These were the reports we were referencing earlier. Coates is only recovering from one surgery. However, that doesn’t mean his outlook for 2017 is any better. With the return of Martavis Bryant (suspension), it pushes Coates further down the depth chart. His play is not reliable anyway as drops are still a major problem for the young wideout.

Bears | Brian Hoyer could stay as mentor

Chicago Bears impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer is a logical choice to be re-signed if the Bears draft a rookie quarterback, in the opinion of ESPN.com’s Jeff Dickerson. Hoyer is open to mentoring younger players and also still has some fuel left in the tank after throwing over 1,400 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions in six games last year.
