Ravens | More 3-WR sets for Baltimore in 2017?

Jeff Zrebeic, from the Baltimore Sun, believes the Baltimore Ravens are going to use more three-wide receiver sets in 2017. They used such formations on 58 percent of the offensive snaps in 2016, a mark that should increase this season. Joe Flacco ranked 11th in the NFL with 429 passing attempts with three or more wide receivers on the field last year. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning led the league with 580 passing attempts in such personnel packages.

Footballguys View: This would be good news for Flacco’s numbers, but could water down the production for the receivers. Mind you, this rhetoric could just be stemming from the fact that the Ravens don’t really know how their receivers will shake out. Jeremy Maclin and Mike Wallace could both do really well, or could struggle as they have in the past. We need to watch this very closely throughout the summer and preseason. We think Wallace and Maclin have a lot of value but Breshad Perriman could be good enough to throw all three receivers into inconsistent chaos.

Seahawks | Equal share of carries between Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls?

Bob Condotta, from the Seattle Times, speculates that the Seattle Seahawks could give Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls a fairly equal share of the basedown carries in 2017. Health and productivity (plus he brings up the dreaded ‘hot hand’ approach) should be the primary factors in how carries are split between the two.

Chiefs | Andy Reid signs extension

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid signed a contract extension Thursday, June 22. Details of the extension were not disclosed.

Footballguys View: We’re pretty sure Alex Smith is now a bridge quarterback in the hopes Pat Mahomes will be ready to go as starter in the next year or two and this is a clear sign that Reid is a part of that grand plan. Of course, a disastrous season or two could change that, but for now it seems like this regime is here to stay.
