Steelers | James Conner injures shoulder

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during practice Sunday, July 30, and will be reevaluated in the near future, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Footballguys View: Conner is set up for a very valuable backup role in fantasy football, but he can’t seem to stay on the practice field. We can’t be sure how serious this injury is, but with Le’Veon Bell not in camp, the Steelers are down to players like Knile Davis and Fitzgerald Toussaint at running back.

Vikings | No timetable for Riley Reiff

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he is not sure when OT Riley Reiff (undisclosed) will be able to return to practice.

Footballguys View: Zimmer is one of the NFL’s straightest shooters among head coaches, so this could be an indication that Reiff has a serious injury, or perhaps frankness that Zimmer just doesn’t know. Either way, it’s not a good development for the Vikings.

Panthers | Curtis Samuel may return soon

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (hamstring) did not participate in practice Sunday, July 30, but head coach Ron Rivera said he hopes Samuel will be able to return Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Footballguys View: If Samuel returns that quickly from his hamstring issue, then it must be truly minor. It’s good news for the rookie and the offense trying to work in his speed as a new element to help Cam Newton.

Bills | Charles Clay receives day off

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) did not participate in practice Sunday, July 30, because he was given the day off. Clay had been a full participant in the first three practices of training camp.

Footballguys View: Three practices in a row is a good sign for Clay, who will have to manage knee issues all season. He is on the fringe of draftable tight ends, but could have some value if the offense improves greatly now that Rex Ryan is gone.

Vikings | Riley Reiff remains sidelined

Minnesota Vikings OT Riley Reiff (undisclosed) missed his third straight practice Sunday, July 30, because of an undisclosed injury he suffered last week. Head coach Mike Zimmer said Reiff’s injury is considered minor.

Footballguys View: The Vikings offensive line was riddled with injuries last year. Reiff was signed in an effort to retool the poor unit, so this isn’t a great sign for turning around the durability issues on the line. Hopefully he will be back soon and Zimmer is telling the truth.
