Saints | Drew Brees has hard deadline
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees would become an unrestricted free agent March 14 if he doesn’t reach a new deal. The final three contract years would void at the start of the new league year, and the Saints will have to pay $18 million worth of signing bonus prorated on this year’s salary cap in addition to whatever salary they end up paying Brees for 2018.

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s deal will pay him $35 million in a signing bonus and roster bonus before the season. He can create $7.5 million in injury guarantees if he makes the AP All-NFL team in any year or he plays 50 percent of the snaps in the regular season, the 49ers make the NFC Championship game and he plays in 50 percent of the playoff snaps. Essentially, Garoppolo is signed for two years and $61 million and potentially three years and $86 million. The final two years could be a wash.
