NFL | Johnny Manziel headed to Canada
Free-agent QB Johnny Manziel (Browns) has announced that he will be signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. He is scheduled to receive a two-year contract, according to a source.
Footballguys View: Manziel’s comeback tour now head up North, and it will be interesting to see what kind of play he can provide up in Canada. A first-round pick of the Browns in 2014, Manziel failed to make it in the NFL due to off-field issues. He seems to have his life back on track but won’t get a ticket back to the NFL just yet. If he performs well for the Tiger-Cats (and stays out of trouble) then perhaps there will be a team that takes a chance on Manziel in the NFL once again.
Redskins | Brian Lafemina hired
The Washington Redskins have hired former NFL executive Brian Lafemina to be their new president of business operations and chief operating officer. He will report to team owner Daniel Snyder. According to a club spokesman, former Redskins president of business operations Dennis Greene is still with the organization and will now report to Lafemina.
Saints | Jeromy Irwin waived
The New Orleans Saints waived OT Jeromy Irwin Thursday, May 17.
Falcons | Julio Jones wants contract update
Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is not expected to participate in organized team activities in part because he wants the team to update his contract. Jones has been in regular contact with head coach Dan Quinn and the team is open to updating Jones’ contract. Jones is scheduled to make $10.5 million in 2018.
Broncos | Jordan Taylor to miss OTAs
Denver Broncos WR Jordan Taylor (hip) will not participate in the organized team activities next week because he is still recovering from hip surgeries.
Colts | Indy not close to signing recent visitors
The Indianapolis Colts recently met with free-agent CB Bashaud Breeland (Redskins), FS Kenny Vaccaro (Saints) and SS Tre Boston (Chargers), but the team is not close to signing any of the players.
