Cowboys | Dez Bryant interested in reunion
Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Saints) has reached out to the Dallas Cowboys about a possible reunion. ‘he has texted me that he would like to come back,’ team vice president Stephen Jones said last week. ‘We have nothing but great respect for Dez and what he accomplished here.’ Jones said the team has made no decision on Bryant and they are just starting to meet with new head coach Mike McCarthy about personnel.
Giants | Golden Tate expected to be part of plan
New York Giants WR Golden Tate is likely stick around heading into the 2020 season, as cutting him would result in $7.1 million of dead money. Beat writer Jordan Raanan says the team was happy with his production after he returned from a four-game suspension, and cutting him seems unlikely since his versatility fits what new head coach Joe Judge is hoping to accomplish in his first season at the helm.
Giants | Nate Solder likely to stick around in 2020
New York Giants OT Nate Solder is likely to stick around for the 2020 season. The team converted $7.5 million of Solder’s 2019 base salary into a fully guaranteed roster bonus that will count against their salary cap in 2020 and 2021, and the team already has a hole at right tackle, so it’s unlikely they’ll do the same on the other side, too, according to beat writer Jordan Raanan.
Footballguys View: Solder is okay at left tackle but the team could find an upgrade if it was financially responsible. Cutting him would result in $13 million of dead money.
Giants | Rhett Ellison could be on the move
New York Giants TE Rhett Ellison has a $7.2 million cap number for the 2020 season, 12th among NFL tight ends. Beat writer Jordan Raanan projects Ellison, who is a solid blocker, as either an option to negotiate a pay cut or end up a cap casualty.
Footballguys View: We’ll see if Ellison would be open to a pay cut or if he wants to hit the open market. He is a reserve player behind Evan Engram and isn’t asked to do that much on offense outside of block.
