Jaguars | Laviska Shenault Jr. putting in work

Jacksonville Jaguars second-round pick WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (abdomen) is doing on-field work to rehab his core muscle injury he had operated on in February.

Footballguys View: Shenault had some concerns about durability in the draft but his ceiling is as high as any receiver in this draft. The Jaguars have plans to use Shenault all over the formation, but if he isn’t ready for camp, that will be difficult to follow through on.

Jets | Le’Veon Bell could be playing for contract

New York Jets RB Le’Veon Bell has no guaranteed money in his deal after this season. If he stays, he is due to make an $8 million salary and receive a $3 million roster bonus that the team is likely not willing to shell out unless he has a monster season.

Footballguys View: If Adam Gase could have undone Bell’s signing last year, he probably would have. Bell is almost certainly in his last year on the Jets roster. Fourth-round pick Lamical Perine has a chance to earn a long-term role with a good rookie year.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick drawing interest

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from an undisclosed team. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said a team contacted him about Kaepernick Thursday, June 11. The Seahawks were interested in Kaepernick after he opted out of his contract with the 49ers in 2017.

Footballguys View: The Steelers, Broncos, Rams, and Titans could also use an upgrade at backup quarterback, but this could be any number of teams. The chances of Kaepernick playing in the NFL this year have gone up significantly after recent events in the United States.

Broncos | OC pleased with Drew Lock’s progress

Denver Broncos QB Drew Lock has left offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur ‘very impressed’ this offseason with his ability to ‘keep up with the (offensive) installations.’ ‘I think he’s got a really good feel for the game. He’s developing a good feel for what we want to do. If the rumor is true that he’s throwing to our players, I think he’s learning something there. We’ll just try to put it all together here come July,’ Shurmur said.

Footballguys View: Lock has a lot of new weapons around him as the Broncos look to upgrade an offense that only scored 17 points per game in 2019. We’ll see what Lock can do in his second year and first full season as a starter. As a rookie in 2019, a thumb injury knocked him out for most of the year. He did start five games for the Broncos, going 4-1 in those contests. We’ll see if the momentum they built last year can carry over to 2020.

Cardinals | DeAndre Hopkins wins at the catch point

Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins has recorded 56 contested catches since the start of the 2015 season – the fourth-highest total by any receiver over that span – according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys View: Hopkins has a fantastic ability to make plays on the ball. Scouts call that ‘my ball’ mentality, and Hopkins also plays with great body control which allows him to make crazy catches seem routine. We’re excited about how the Cardinals offense will implement their new superstar this year.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans goes up and gets it

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans has made 60 contested catches since the start of the 2015 season – the third-highest total by any receiver over that span – according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys View: Evans is big, fast and physical. He’s essentially a perfect wide receiver with the way he plays the game and his athletic profile. New QB Tom Brady will quickly find that Evans is the guy to throw to when the chains need to move. It should make for a great combination in 2020.

Falcons | Contested catches no issue for Julio Jones

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones has amassed 63 contested catches since the start of the 2015 season – the most by any receiver over that span – according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys View: This is what Julio Jones does. He’ll box out smaller defenders with his large frame and he does a good job of high-pointing passes when they come in. Fantasy GMs want him to score more touchdowns (only one season of double-digit TD grabs) but Jones is still a WR1 and must-start player ever week.
