Rams | Cooper Kupp’s job getting easier each year

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp has seen his average depth of catch decline each year, going from 9.0 yards as a rookie in 2017 to 8.3 in 2018 and 7.0 in 2019.

Footballguys View: It’s going to level out for Kupp in 2020. His average depth of catch reflects how he’s used and where he’s attacking an opponents defense. Kupp is a stud on the field and a WR1 for Fantasy GMs in PPR leagues. His current ADP is WR11 (3.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

49ers | Deebo Samuel made it happen after the catch

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel was one of only two receivers (Mecole Hardman) with at least 40 targets in 2019 whose yardage after catch average (8.5) was higher than his average depth of target (7.4).

Footballguys View: That’s Samuel’s game…always has been, and always will be. He’s big, strong and fast which makes him tough for defenders at any level to deal with. Samuel will be one of the best receivers after the catch once again in 2020.

Texans | Brandin Cooks primed to rebound?

Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks’ catch rate of 59.2 percent in 2019 with the Los Angeles Rams was the second-lowest mark of his career, and Jared Goff recorded a passer rating of only 83.2 when throwing in his direction. However, Cooks’ catch rate in three of his previous four seasons was at least 65.1 percent, and his quarterbacks over that stretch enjoyed a passer rating of 103.2 or better in each of the four years when targeting him.

Footballguys View: Cooks comes into the Texans organization as a replacement for DeAndre Hopkins. Those are huge shoes to fill, so Cooks needs a bounce-back year which starts first with staying healthy. He then needs to establish strong chemistry with superstar QB Deshaun Watson. Cooks has a current ADP of WR32 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce always a friendly target

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce has caught no fewer than 83.5 percent of his catchable targets over the last five seasons, and quarterbacks have recorded a passer rating no worse than 105.8 over that stretch. In 2019, he hauled in 84.3 percent of his 115 catchable targets and his quarterbacks recorded a 112.2 passer rating when targeting him.

Footballguys View: Kelce is a dominant force and that’s going to continue in 2020. He is consistent and can take over a game. Kelce is difficult to match up with because he’s too fast for linebackers and too big for safeties to cover.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu’s hands betrayed him after trade

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu caught 89.2 percent of his 37 catchable targets as a member of the Atlanta Falcons in 2019, but that figure dropped to 72.2 percent on his 36 catchable targets following his midseason trade to the Patriots.

Footballguys View: Sanu didn’t mesh well with the Patriots. We’ll see how he does with Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer at quarterback in 2020. Fantasy GMs have other and better options out there. Sanu is mostly an end-of-the-bench player in fantasy leagues. In most leagues, Sanu is not getting drafted and that makes him more of a waiver wire player entering this season.

Panthers | D.J. Moore flashed sure hands in 2019

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore caught 92.6 percent of his 94 catchable targets in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Footballguys View: Moore is one of the best young receivers in the league, largely due to his hands and consistency. Fantasy GMs are looking at him as a WR2 with upside in 2020. Moore has a current ADP of WR17 (4.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Dylan Cantrell to change positions

Arizona Cardinals WR Dylan Cantrell is expected to move to tight end this upcoming season.

Footballguys View: The move to tight end has been speculated and is now official. Cantrell didn’t play in the league last year but now gets another chance with his former college coach, Kliff Kingsbury, at Texas Tech. He’s a freakish athlete and we’ll be watching to see how this transition to tight end goes in crazy deep dynasty formats.
