Steelers | James Conner expected to play

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner is expected to play in 2020, according to a source, despite being a cancer survivor. New England Patriots OT Marcus Cannon chose to opt out as a fellow cancer survivor, spurring questions about Conner’s intentions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Conner is four years cancer-free and in phenomenal shape, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Patriots | Patrick Chung adds to growing list of Pats opting out

New England Patriots SS Patrick Chung will opt out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19 concerns.

Footballguys View: Chung is an expectant father and did not want to take any chances. The Patriots have quite a few players opting out so far, including three key players like Chung, OT Marcus Cannon and LB Dont’a Hightower.

49ers | Deebo Samuel not on a timeline

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) is not on a timeline in his recovery from a fractured bone in his foot, according to general manager John Lynch. ‘Not going to put an exact timeline on it, but it’s fair to say he may miss some games at the start of the year.’

Footballguys View: Samuel could be bound for the PUP list which would force him out the first six weeks of the regular season. Some analysts don’t believe that will happen, but Samuel might be in line to miss a few weeks to one month of action when the regular season opens. Samuel’s absence will create opportunity for 2020 first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk. In current drafts, Samuel is going off the board at WR35 (8.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.
