49ers | George Kittle terrific after catch

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle recorded 621 yards after the catch during the 2019 season and was the only tight end in the NFL to recorded at least 600 yards after the catch.

Footballguys View: The 49ers seem reluctant to give Kittle a contract that reflects his true value to the team. He may settle for money below the top wide receiver pay, but above every other tight end, but it’s also possible that the 49ers tag Kittle next year, or even trade him like they did DeForest Buckner when it was time for him to get paid.

Lions | D’Andre Swift ready to roll

Detroit Lions RB D’Andre Swift says he’s eager to compete with returning starter Kerryon Johnson for snaps. ‘I’ve been competing all my life,’ Swift said Thursday, July 9 on a conference call. ‘Kerryon is a great back, great player. I remember when he was at Auburn, and he was killing us. He’s still doing great in the league. I can’t even give you my role. Whatever role they have for me, I just gotta make sure I’m in the best shape and know all of the plays so I’m ready to take it on full force. But I’m not going in there looking to do anything, just doing what I’ve been doing.’

Patriots | Former exec confident Cam Newton starts

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton will win the starting competition against QBs Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer in training camp, according to former Patriots executive vice president Michael Lombardi Thursday, July 9. ‘Watching Cam Newton throw and move, there is no doubt he will win the starting job,’ Lombardi tweeted.

Footballguys View: Lombardi is right. The only way Newton will lose out to Stidham is if he gets injured in training camp. Consider him a low QB1 even though the league seemed to move on from him earlier this offseason.
