Jets | Adam Gase focused on finale, not future

New York Jets head coach Adam Gase said Wednesday, Dec. 30 that he is focused on the Week 17 game against the New England Patriots. A radio report Tuesday, Dec. 29 said Gase had already been told he would be fired after the season finale, but Gase claims he has heard nothing. ‘That was news to me,’ Gase said. ‘No one has said that to me.’

Rams | Cam Akers not being ruled out

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers (ankle) is a question mark for the regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals, but head coach Sean McVay isn’t ruling him out. ‘I wouldn’t bet against this guy (playing),’ McVay said Wednesday, Dec. 30. If Akers cannot go, Malcolm Brown would be the top back with Xavier Jones and Raymond Calais as his backups.

Browns | Baker Mayfield relishes Week 17 challenge

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield said Wednesday, Dec. 30, that the playoffs start in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he added that he lives for these moments. ‘Just to be honest with you guys, the mentality here is we’re in our playoffs just one week early,’ Mayfield said. ‘It’s win or go home. That’s the mentality for our guys. These are the moments you ask for. When you’re little, you dream of playing in the game where it comes down to you have the ball in your hands and you want to take care of business. It comes down to the moments when you have to win.’
