Dolphins | Jaylen Waddle drafted by Dolphins
Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Footballguys View: Waddle has speed like Tyreek Hill and tons of wiggle to his game. The Dolphins needed a wide receiver and Waddle played college ball with Tua Tagovailoa. He should step in and have incredible chemistry with him once again. Waddle also has plus value as a special teams player (return man).
Bengals | Cincinnati selects Ja’Marr Chase
Louisiana State WR Ja’Marr Chase was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Footballguys View: Many thought the Bengals would select an offensive tackle, but they go with Chase – a college teammate of QB Joe Burrow. Chase can make difficult grabs seem easy and he’s got the speed to take the top off the defense. Big plays are the name of the game, and he should easily regain the chemistry he had with Burrow in college.
Falcons | Kyle Pitts joins Atlanta
Florida TE Kyle Pitts was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Footballguys View: Pitts is a super-sized wide receiver who happens to play tight end. He’s a mismatch no matter where he lines up on the field. Pitts can make an instant impact as a fantasy asset and should be a reliable target for QB Matt Ryan in 2021. He’s in consideration for TE1 production as a rookie.
49ers | San Francisco drafts Trey Lance
North Dakota State QB Trey Lance was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Footballguys View: Lance was always the call for the 49ers. He’s raw, but his upside might be the greatest of any quarterback in the NFL draft. Lance has a game like Cam Newton and can attack a defense as a runner. He’s got a big arm and is smart, but his downfield accuracy does need work.
Jets | Zach Wilson selected by Jets
Brigham Young QB Zach Wilson was selected by the New York Jets with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Footballguys View: Wilson is a mobile quarterback who can make exciting off-platform throws. He struggles under pressure, and didn’t face that much pressure at BYU. Wilson is not Patrick Mahomes as some have said, but he can make plays like Baker Mayfield. We’ll see if he can handle the pressure in the Big Apple.
Jaguars | Trevor Lawrence goes to Jacksonville
Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Footballguys View: Zero surprise here. Lawrence is a franchise level quarterback and seen as a “can’t miss” prospect. He processes information quickly and can throw lasers regularly on the field. From a fantasy lens, Lawrence is a QB2 with upside based on his talent and the weapons around him.
Giants | NYG talks with Penei Sewell
Oregon OT Penei Sewell recently had multiple virtual meetings with the New York Giants, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano.
Patriots | New England unlikely to add Jimmy Garoppolo
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is not expected to be acquired by the New England Patriots during the 2021 NFL Draft or in the near future in part because the Patriots do not have the salary cap space to add Garoppolo’s contract.
Cowboys | Dak Prescott happy with progress
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (ankle) said he is happy with the progress he has made since suffering his injury and is able to do most things at this point. He said he will be ready for the start of the regular season.
