Jaguars | Sherrod Martin has edge with experience

Jacksonville Jaguars SS Sherrod Martin has 36 starts in the NFL under his belt. The rest of the team’s safeties have one combined.

Footballguys View: We’re certain that experience is going to pay off for Martin when it comes to making the 53-man roster. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said that Martin is ‘very hard-working, internally driven and performs like he’s not going to miss this.’ The second-year coach also added that experience is great to have in the locker room. The Jaguars are on the right track with Bradley, and we trust him to make sound decisions–especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Chiefs | Dontari Poe receives praise

Kansas City Chiefs DT Dontari Poe was praised by head coach Andy Reid recently. Reid said to get Poe off the field you have to pull him off and that he is ‘not one to tap out.’ Reid added that there was no decline in Poe’s play later on last season, despite how often Poe was on the field. Poe should continue to see plenty of work again this season as the Chiefs did not add a nose tackle to take Poe’s place.

Ravens | Chris Canty can apply to keep special facemask

Baltimore Ravens DE Chris Canty will be able to apply for medical exemption to keep wearing a specially designed facemask that protects his damaged left eye, according to a source. Canty’s eye was struck with a beer bottle as he was leaving the scene of a bar fight in 2005. He suffered a detached retina that required emergency surgery, saving his eyesight. Canty has been wearing the facemask since his rookie season.
