Cowboys | Dallas to take a look at J.T. Barrett

Free-agent QB J.T. Barrett (Steelers) is expected to try out for the Dallas Cowboys during the team’s rookie minicamp this weekend, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Footballguys View: Barrett has athleticism and a strong arm as a passer. His accuracy and decision making have kept him from playing up to his potential. At this point, Barrett is a long-shot to make any roster but the Cowboys will give him a look.

49ers | Rookie RB Trey Sermon Passed the Turner Test

49ers running back coach, Bobby Turner, was in almost constant contact with Ohio State running back Trey Sermon before the draft. Turner, a trusted member of the staff with an eye for talent, believes Sermon is the type of back who can succeed in the Shanahan offense.

Footballguys View: If Turner is standing on the table for you, then you know the kid can play. Sermon is one of the best backs in this draft class, a Matt Waldman favorite, and a perfect fit for what the 49ers want to do on the ground. His current ADP of RB62 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues should rise as the regular season gets closer.

Steelers | Smith-Schuster to Play More Outside in 2021

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster told ESPN’s Adam Schefter his role in the Steelers offense could change after a 2020 season that saw him lead the NFL with 103 targets from the slot.

Footballguys View: Smith-Schuster decided to give it one more try with the Steelers in 2021. He was a free agent but ended up staying in Pittsburgh with a one-year contract. Smith-Schuster had a down season in 2020, but playing on the outside more this season does give his fantasy value more upside. Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board at WR34 (7.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady Can Play Until He’s 50?

In a recent interview with Rich Eisen, Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht revealed that he told Tom Brady “if he wants to play until he’s 50, and he still feels like he can play, he can still play until he’s 50.”

Footballguys View: Brady turns 44 in August and wants to play a couple of more seasons. That’s the reason the Buccaneers made sure to get an extension done with him. Playing until he’s 50 would be incredible and sounds far fetched. However, it sounded far fetched when Brady said he wanted to play until he was 45 years old and we’re almost there.
