Chiefs | Chris Finke headed to Kansas City

Free-agent WR Chris Finke reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday, May 5. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys View: Finke originally came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame last year, and he first signed with the 49ers. He’s a gritty player who is tough over the middle as a slot receiver who earns his quarterback’s trust. Finke also worked as the primary return man for the Fighting Irish which adds to his value with the Chiefs. He’ll try to make the 53-man roster behind guys like Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson.

Lions | Darren Fells set to join Detroit

Free-agent TE Darren Fells (Texans) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, May 5.

Footballguys View: With Josh Hill retiring, the Lions needed to add more depth to the tight end room. Fells is a huge target and can be a presence in the red zone. His size also makes him a fine blocker when tasked with that duty. Fells should work in as the primary backup to starter T.J. Hockenson in 2021.

Patriots | Sony Michel’s roster spot in danger?

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel could potentially lose his roster spot to fourth-round rookie Rhamondre Stevenson because the latter is more likely to be a factor on special teams, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Footballguys View: The Patriots have a jam-packed backfield with Damien Harris, James White and Michel already on the roster. Michel, a first-round pick in 2018, saw his numbers go down in 2020 as he only appeared in eight games. He’s got to stay healthy and impress if he wants to secure his spot on the 53-man roster. It sounds outlandish to hear that his roster spot may be in jeopardy but things change quickly around here and anything can happen.
