Titans | Won’t pick up Jake Locker’s option

The Tennessee Titans will not exercise the fifth-year option on QB Jake Locker’s contract, meaning he will be playing for his future with the organization in 2014. The Titans have yet to officially announce their decision. Locker is scheduled to make $2.091 million this year.

Footballguys View: Nobody should be surprised by this. Locker has not stayed healthy or played up to his potential as a pro. The Titans would be wise to consider adding another young quarterback this year.

Redskins | Robert Griffin says he wasn’t benched

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is adamant that he wasn’t benched, but shut down at the end of the 2013 season by former head coach Mike Shanahan. ‘The way I refer to it, and really what happened, is coach brought me in his office and said he was shutting me down for the rest of the year,’ Griffin said. ‘So a lot of people say I was benched, but I was really shut down.’

Footballguys View: Shanahan and Griffin’s relationship fell apart. That’s why Shanahan is no longer in Washington. Griffin is getting a fresh start with creative new head coach Jay Gruden. If healthy, he should be able to get his NFL career back on track.

Buccaneers | Not worried about Johnny Manziel’s off-field concerns

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came away very impressed after interviewing Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, and they are seriously considering drafting him with their first-round pick if he’s available. Head coach Lovie Smith has raved about Manziel’s pro day workout, and both he and Manziel have Texas roots. General manager Jason Licht isn’t worried about all of Manziel’s off-field concerns.

Footballguys View: Reports have surfaced that Smith loves Manziel. The team has Josh McCown as their starter this year, but they are looking for a quarterback of the future. Mike Glennon did a fine job in 2013, but he wasn’t selected by the new regime. Manziel is certainly an option for the Bucs if he’s on the board at 7th overall.

Eagles | Will consider Johnny Manziel

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said the team will consider drafting Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel if he’s available in the draft. Head coach Chip Kelly is a big believer in Manziel and even recruited him when he coached at Oregon. ‘We’re going to stick to our board on (possibly drafting Manziel),’ Roseman said. ‘I think that for us, it all depends on the grade. I think that when Coach (Chip Kelly) was talking about (Manziel), he was talking about recruiting, and there’s a lot of players in this draft, when we get in the draft room, that Coach is excited about.’
