Browns | Intangibles separated Baker Mayfield

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield’s off-field intangibles gave him the edge in being viewed as the best quarterback in this year’s class by the Browns, according to vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith Sr.

Footballguys View: Highsmith specifically noted Mayfield’s intelligence, competitiveness and efficacy as favorable traits. Mayfield is certainly an alpha male and believes he’s the one who can turn things around for the Browns. It’s going to be interesting to watch and see if Mayfield can start from day one. He should as he has the accuracy and ability to do so, but the Browns may begin this season with Tyrod Taylor as their starter. Stay tuned…and pay close attention to which WRs Mayfield seems to form the strongest bond with leading up to the regular season.

49ers | Arik Armstead’s option picked up

San Francisco 49ers DE Arik Armstead’s fifth-year option was exercised Monday, April 30, according to sources.

Footballguys View: A first-round pick in 2015, Armstead has not played a full 16-game season since his rookie year. He’s only played in 14 games over the last two seasons and is transitioning to more of a run-stuffing role in 2018. We’ll see if he can hold up with this new role. The fifth-year option is guaranteed only for injury.
